Anthony Low of SAP’s Customer Solution Adoption team provided this Design Studio webcast.
This webcast was geared towards admin and developers so they understand how it fits in environment
The usual disclaimer that future things are subject to change
He covered publishing content to platform, BI platform or NetWeaver and the related consumption options - how consume?
Figure 1: Source: SAP
Figure 1 shows the architecture diagram on the left – design tool on workstation, deploy to BI platform in center and consume from data sources
Design Studio is able to consume from BW or HANA
The prerequisites are on the right – BI4 SP5.9, etc.
When you publish to the platform, the connection details are stored on BI Platform
Once you publish the application, use the BI4 platform promotion management system to transport from BI Platform to Test/Quality/Production platform
The top left is the consumer scenario – consume on web browser as well SmartPhone w/ BI Mobile (use the BI Platform deployment option)
The next scenario is NetWeaver Platform:
Figure 2: Source: SAP
The prerequisites are on the right of Figure 2. It includes the NetWeaver portal too
Once you develop application, you publish to a BW ABAP server so they become objects in the ABAP repository
Then these are transported from one BW dev system to test/production using CTS change and transport system in BW
The data source to build application is based on content from BW – a single data source scenario – Bex queries or InfoProviders.
Once published, you can consume through a NW Java Portal front end – laptops
Figure 3: Source: SAP
On your workstation, you can execute/preview application on workstation using a runtime that is installed on the workstation, as shown in Figure 3
You can build apps on multiple BW or HANA data sources
Prerequisites
Figure 4: Source: SAP
BI platform needs to be on BI4.0 or BI4.1
Install an add-on on BI4 system – it is a separate BIP add-on on SMP
The operating system comes in different flavors/versions – Windows, Linux
First you uncompress download, there will be 2 installs in that download
The install options are on the lower right
It is deployed to the web application server
Analysis Application Service – Design Studio application run-time – you want to deploy this Java Runtime to BI4 system
BI Platform has multiple tiers and depends on which nodes and service
Figure 5: Source: SAP
The install will install the Analysis Service and add analysis application service to the default APS
If you have more than 1 APS you need to decide which one to add this service to – you one APS that includes Analysis Application Service
APS Best Practices discussed how to create these APS’s
You also need to think about the sizing. Today sizing companion guide and estimator – consider Design Studio users as Analysis OLAP users and size them into the estimator since Design Studio is not considered (SAPS)
Another configuration item is in the CMC has a OpenDoc URL to call BI Platform and launch and stored in a location
Figure 6: Source: SAP
Figure 6 covers the prerequisites, what you have to do on ABAP/BW server
NW 73x – need to run an application to make Design Studio application known to BW
Figure 7: Source: SAP
Need a NW J2EE portal server
Components to deploy includes BI Java and EP Core
Steps are in the Admin guide (for Design Studio)
Configure HTML5 compliant setting to set up Design Studio iView
Granting of authorizations for using the applet/run time Design Studio content
Next blog will cover publication workflow, consumption scenarios, and more.
