At last year’s TechEd, my colleagues Jie Deng, Eric Schemer and I spoke at a session where we talked about plans for SAP Lumira’s integration with BW and Design Studio.  In every repeat of this session, at every TechEd location where we ran has this talk, we spoke to a packed room.  There was a tremendous amount of interest in BW connectivity and interoperability.  Now we’re humbled to hear that our session has been nominated for "Lecture of the Week" for the week of 20st of July 2015.

The Original Lecture:

Things are changing and developing so fast, that the talk was out of date as soon as it left our lips.  Now is a good time for a short word on what we’ve done and where we’re going in the meantime.  In the session, we laid out the two main approached to BW connectivity, a so called “acquisition” scenario where the query was executed and the result set downloaded into Lumira for local manipulation and another, live OLAP approach.  Both are now a reality.

As of Lumira 1.27, you can acquire data form a BW query into Lumira and analyze it, just like any other data source.  My colleague, Eric Yew has written a series of articles on the details of how the acquisition scenario works (part 1, part 2 and part 3).  We also brought the live OLAP connection to life.  As of Design Studio 1.5, the standard template list includes the Data Discovery and Visualization Template.  This template looks, feels and works suspiciously like the Lumira visualization and compose rooms.  This is no accident.  The aim of the DDVL template is to provide a customizable Lumira user experience in a pure OLAP environment, integrated with the rest of the dashboard and app ecosystem.

We also spoke on the topic of client-client integration side.  On this side of the house, things are also moving, but for now I have to remain coy.  Watch this space!
